So I know I promised you guys better videos and that my pumpkin pie recipe would be the next one to have its halls decked and that was a while ago. I’d like to apologize for my hiatus, but the holidays really sucked this year.
My friend Mike passed away December 5th, and his funeral was on the 10th. We hosted a holiday party at our house December 17th, and by that I mean I cleaned most of the house myself until I just ran out of steam. And then of course there were the actual holidays of Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Thankfully there isn’t another family holiday to celebrate until Mother’s Day…unless Mom is feeling extra Catholic for Easter this year.
Since Thanksgiving, we haven’t had room in our fridge for me to buy ingredients for a blog post. Nor room to store the leftovers from making the dish for the blog post. Between the leftovers, the stuff Mom buys when she gets tired of the leftovers, and the other stuff Mom buys when she gets tired of the stuff she bought because she was tired of the leftovers… Well, I haven’t been able to see the back wall of the fridge since November.
As you can see, 2016 and the recent holidays have pushed me to the brink of insanity. But 2017 will be different! Changes are coming! Starting with me just having submitted my two weeks’ notice at work. I will be leaving my day job as graphic designer at the real estate office to begin expansion of my Deglutenizer brand.
My primary focus will be to become a restaurant consultant and sell my recipes to local restaurants that want to include a gluten-free menu in their offerings. I’ve also researched Florida’s cottage food laws, which are regulations that direct how homemade food products can be sold directly to consumers at farmers’ markets and roadside stands. And I would love to continue blogging.
Expanding my brand will mean having to update my website, and updates mean downtime. I beg your patience during this period of transition. I will have to update the page structure and navigation of the site, and such work can be tedious.
As I prepare to leave my current job on January 20th, I will be working diligently to transition immediately into actually working as The Deglutenizer: Blogger, Restaurant Consultant, Cottage Food Seller. That means signing up for Square, registering as a business, getting business cards and car door magnets, researching local restaurants and their fare to develop personalized gluten-free menus that fit their theme, and pretty much being ready to roll out January 23rd on my first day of work with samples, printed menus, and blank sign-on contracts.
2017 is going to be as big a year as I make it, so I’m going to blow it up. Please be patient as I make changes and move things around. The blog will be up and running as usual soon. I’ll also soon have a guide for restaurants I’m partnered with to feature gluten-free menu offerings in Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin Counties, and will update it regularly with new signees. And if you’re looking for me at a local farmers’ market, I’ll begin posting schedules as I’m approved for new events where cottage food sales are allowed.
Happy new year from The Deglutenizer!
