Announcing my first book!

Hey, guys! I don’t know if you saw the announcement in my last post, but my book is ready and listed for sale! You can buy it in my store, or from Amazon Kindle.

I do currently require registration in my store in order to purchase, but that’s just to make sure that despite PayPal being a butt to me, that you still get the download and a charge to either your PayPal account or debit or credit card. I can enable guest checkout that doesn’t require registration later once I make sure my customers are getting their download orders.

As for the book itself, it’s best viewed in 2-page spread with a cover in your .pdf viewer. I laid it out with a printed book in mind, so sometimes the pictures are on the left and the recipe on the right, and the next spread may have the order flipped. So you could get recipe a, pictures a, pictures b, recipe b if you view it in single pages.

Have a Kindle account? Then you can probably guess what to do here…

So what’s the difference between getting it in my store and on Kindle? Well I get all of the proceeds from my store, and you get a delightful .pdf file directly on your computer that you can put on your phone, iPad, computer, or any other device that displays .pdfs. You also can re-download it any time you want through the previous orders section of your account management system on my website.

What about if you download it on Kindle? Well, I only get 35% of the proceeds from the Kindle version, but you don’t have to worry about store glitches and don’t have to set up an account here on my site. So I will make ~$1.05 per download priced at $2.99. But I put my book on Kindle to make it more accessible, so if you feel more comfortable ordering it there, please do. It’s also available for Kindle Lending where you can loan it to a friend for a period to try before they buy (I ask that you please not share the .pdf of my book if you download it from my store, though).

But what are you getting when you buy my book? Well first of all, you’re getting something rather than the nothing you’d get if I just set up a donate button on my site. You’re also getting additional content that isn’t available with the rest of my free content…which is all of my content. Unlike a lot of other blogs, I don’t offer special “subscriber-only access” or have a newsletter that I send out only to my email subscribers where they get extra content. My main goal is to help anyone learn how to make delicious gluten-free foods, or even just learn how to cook at all if they suck at it. So once in a while I’d like to offer some additional content for a small fee to people who already read my blog just to help curb the expenses of having to buy ingredients and pay for web hosting and my domain.

Okay, but what are you really getting when you buy my book? For starters, there’s my lovely frittata recipe that’s perfect for brunch. Then there’s the mac & cheese. Yes, I have a recipe on the blog already, but that one requires a roux, toasted spices, and a tempered egg, and in my book you just melt some dairy and spices together, add boiled pasta, and bake.

After that I teach you how to make proper Southern sweet tea. Then we head to the Southwest and my chipotle slaw recipe, perfect for seafood tacos, pork sandwiches, burgers, po’boys, and more. Next, I get a little vegan on you with a stuffed pepper recipe full of Italian spices, brown rice, beans, and your favorite tomato sauce.

I follow that with a whole chicken, roasted to perfection over carrots and onions, and stuffed with herbs and lemon. Then, the recipe that I think is really going to sell the book: a perfect gluten-free key lime pie (keeping in mind that its developer is none other than the rarest of all species, a native Floridian).

Finally, a twist on the classic Jameson and ginger…except that I hate ginger ale and substituted Sprite. I also fixed the ratios of Jameson, Sprite, and lime to accommodate the oppressive heat of my native habitat and better balance the flavors of the separate ingredients.

So I hope all my readers get super-excited about getting additional content and supporting my blog and that you all grab a copy for yourselves. If you have any trouble trying to download your content, please let me know and I’ll get it fixed ASAP. I’m already planning my next release, which I think will be 10-12 recipes for holiday baking, and I’m aiming for late September for publication. Please leave your thoughts in a comment below, or get in touch with me directly by filling out the form on the contact page.
