I’m about to launch a new phase of The Deglutenizer as a business. I want to go into local restaurants and help them develop gluten-free menus and staff training programs as a consultant.
To implement this plan, I need to collect testimonials from gluten-free diners. I want to hear their experiences in selecting an establishment when faced with dietary restrictions. For me personally, the other members of my group (usually 4-10 people) look to me to choose where to eat because I’m the one with special considerations. I often choose the same locations each time. Usually, it’s a national chain like Longhorn. It’s difficult to spill gluten on a steak unless a cook is intentionally trying to poison a guest.
More often than not, I find myself organizing social nights at my residence where I can prepare my own food in my own kitchen. Although I personally enjoy entertaining guests in this fashion, I imagine most other people find it frustrating to have such limited options.
What I’d like to know from you is if you’d visit more local establishments if gluten-free options were more widely offered and understood. Have you ever had to pass up an invitation to a dining establishment due to lack of options? How often to you steer a group of customers away from a location because it can’t serve your needs? Tell me your story so I can share testimonials with the owners of the local restaurants I call. Your experience may be what changes their mind about offering gluten-free options.
