Who has two thumbs and is just so tired all the time? *points to self with thumbs* This chick right here! Sorry I haven’t been posting, but I’m basically full-time at work, and my everything hurts. When I’m not at my day job, I’m working on building my restaurant consultation service. That’s right, I’m in the soft-launch stage of my gluten-free restaurant consultation business!
Work, Work, Work…
I started calling on restaurants a few weeks ago on my days off from my day job. I’ve got a new website and folders and contracts and a customer survey and business cards and everything! So far, response has been pretty lackluster. I have a feeling that it’s just getting the first couple restaurants to sign on that will be difficult. Once I have my first couple clients and we’ve had visible success in our partnership, hopefully my phone starts blowing up with restaurants calling me instead of me having to call them.
Also, in my visits to local restaurants to offer my services, I noticed lots of restaurants have gluten-free offerings that I never knew about because they don’t advertise their allergy-friendly options. So I’m in the process of developing new services for these restaurants to begin advertising their inclusive menu items through my channels.
If you’re gluten-free on the Treasure Coast, please follow my new social media accounts for the latest information on my advertisers and consultation clients, including menus, locations, launch events, and special offers. If I can show that I have a following of interested customers ready to spend on new gluten-free dining experiences, I bet more restaurants would inquire further about my services.

What does all this mean for my blog? Well, I still have time and energy to produce content, but not the same way that I’ve been producing content. I’ve been trying to stick with one post per recipe, including a written post and a demo video. Each of these posts is a major project that includes developing the recipe, shopping for ingredients, getting the kitchen ready for recording, kicking other people out of the house or confining them to their rooms, picking a cute outfit and doing hair and makeup to make myself camera-ready, recording the preparation of the recipe, then several hours of video editing (which I hate, so it takes longer).
On top of that, I now work in a kitchen. When I got the job, I was like, “I love cooking so much I’ll never be tired of being in the kitchen!” Now that I’ve been there a while, I walk in the door after work and throw a dirty look to my kitchen as I walk past to take a shower, because working in kitchens is gross, smelly, sweaty work. The idea of spending time in my kitchen to produce anything more complicated than a bowl of rice ramen for my blog is just exhausting.
Also, I’m working on getting my stuff together to transfer with my job to Tampa in late October/early November. Tampa seems to have a more inclusive culture, and I’m excited to see how I can do gluten-free there. Maybe the restaurants in the Tampa area would be more receptive to gluten-free consultation. And then I can re-brand my consultation and advertising services for all of South Florida.
Future Blog Content
I am working on some new blog ideas. Rather than cross-posting the same backlinks, images, etc., I want to utilize each media outlet I use to its fullest potential. Rather than tying written blog posts to my YouTube videos, I’m going to just write and include some related pictures on the blog. That will leave me able to do something different on YouTube without restricting myself to content that works in both written and video media.
Possible future content:
- Taste tests (YouTube, promotion on social media):
- Homegoods/Walmart/Nutrition S’Mart hauls
- which gluten-free version of the same product tastes better?
- panel of friends to taste recipes and give feedback
- Comments on latest gluten-free research articles (blog, twitter, tumblr)
- Contest announcements (YouTube, promotion on social media)
- Live-streams of me preparing the types of foods that I typically eat (twitch)
- Updates on how restaurant consultation/gluten-free advertising is going (blog)
- Recipe development and testing (twitch)
- Collaborations with other gluten-free content producers? (cross-platform)
So that’s what I’ve got going on for now. New content will be coming soon, so be sure to follow all my social media channels to see what’s happening. And if you’re interested in gluten-free dining on the Treasure Coast (Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River Counties in Florida), please follow my new social media channels that I linked above.
