I’m running my first online contest! I’m giving away a $25 Bob’s Red Mill gift card in a subscriber drive for my YouTube channel. The contest entry period is from midnight on January 23rd until midnight January 30th. One option allows for daily entries.
Since most of my followers probably aren’t savvy to the ins-and-outs of running a YouTube channel, let me go over the basics. Content creators who can make money through ad revenue on their videos are part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). I qualified for partnership a while ago…until they made their most recent announcement.
On February 20th, YouTube is changing the conditions of qualifying for YPP. I will no longer meet the criteria. The new requirements are that a channel must have over 4,000 hours of watch time within the previous 12-month period, and must have 1,000 subscribers. As of the time of writing this post, I have about 1,600 hours of watch time and 209 subscribers. See all the new YPP information on the YouTube Help page.
I would like my earnings on this channel to cover the cost of producing new content, and eventually allow me to invest in improving my video quality. Future costs would include new equipment, hiring a team, and finding commercial space. I’d like to cook, record, edit, and produce professional quality content somewhere besides my home kitchen.
Help me maintain my YPP eligibility! There’s lots of ways to enter the contest for your chance to win that $25 Bob’s Red Mill gift card. Use the widget below to make your entries between midnight January 23rd and midnight January 30th.
On top of running my contest, I was also already planning a blog event for February that I’m calling Frybruary. I haven’t really tackled frying yet on my blog because I was struggling to find a way to teach it that would work for all my followers. Then I decided, “hey, this is my blog and my content, I’ll just teach them how I work my frying magic.”
Next week I’m posting my Frybruary training video that explains what happens to food as it fries. It’ll include diagrams and pictures of delicious fried chicken. Then we can refer back to that video instead of having to answer all the “why’s” and “how’s” on every individual fried food video I produce in the future.
Also in the works: I’ve just made a vendor inquiry at the South Florida Gluten-Free Expo on February 24th. It’s $200 to attend as a cottage food seller. I’m hoping to magically scrounge that much together ASAP so I can apply for my very first expo. On top of selling baked goods at an event of 1500-2000-ish people, it would be an amazing opportunity to interact with the public and promote all my current and upcoming projects.
I would also want to print some promotional materials, and bake way more than I do for the flea market. Between the vendor fee, printing costs, and additional ingredient costs, on top of my weekly vendor fees and ingredient costs for my existing cottage food business, I’m not really hopeful for my chance of finding the money unless I get really lucky on a $2 scratcher.
Good luck in the contest! I hope all my followers are eager to help me continue to grow my influence in the gluten-free food and information industries. Within 10 years, I want the mere mention of The Deglutenizer to make Udi’s sweat nervously. And I hope everyone finds Frybruary to be educational and entertaining, and is inspired to master the art at home. Because even gluten intolerance shouldn’t stop you from enjoying fried chicken. Finally, I hope to see my Florida followers at the South Florida Gluten-Free Expo. I will keep you updated on if I meet the fee schedule in time.
