So Thanksgiving went fairly smoothly, and my fridge is still packed with leftovers. I don’t have any room in said fridge to make a recipe for this post, since I would then have to stash that dish in the fridge. Instead, today’s post will feature another of my Martha Stewart skills: basic gift-wrapping technique.
Unfortunately, if you usually skip my videos, you won’t find this post particularly fulfilling. This is largely a demonstrative skill, so I put all the information in the video. Click the play button above and learn five different wrapping techniques for a standard box, a gift bag, a blister pack or other uneven package, and two types of wrapping for cylindrical items.
Speaking of my videos… Some of you may recognize that I started out utilizing Final Cut Pro X for my video projects. Toward the end of last year, I made the switch to Premier Pro. I haven’t taken the time to master Premier, and I’ve never even opened After Effects. I’ve been busy churning out blog videos around the insanity of my daily goings-on, and I could either put production on hold to actually learn what I’m doing, or just keep producing.
I’m working on updating my portfolio for my real-life career in graphic design, marketing, and digital media, and one reason I started this blog was to be an ongoing, living, breathing portfolio piece. I came up with a basic template when I started this blog, and haven’t really updated it much since. So I’m going to take the time to get better and improve my content for my portfolio, and make new strides in food photography, video production, and promotion on social media.
My first updated piece will be my pumpkin pie recipe. It was my first video ever (like, ever-ever…we never actually did a complete video project in my only video class), and is in desperate need of not just re-shooting like a few videos I’ve posted recently, but a complete overhaul. I expect to have that one out in time for Christmas, the perfect gift to myself to add to my portfolio, and just in time for your holiday baking.
Anyway, expect some changes soon. In the meantime, enjoy learning to wrap gifts for whatever gift-giving holiday you celebrate this winter (if it’s winter in your part of the world). And remember, wrapping gifts for birthdays and anniversaries utilizes the same techniques, so don’t forget this video when it’s time for your parents’ 50th or little Timmy’s birthday party.
