Thanksgiving 2017 Masterpost

Thanksgiving 2017 Masterpost

Thanksgiving 2017 Masterpost

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! That’s right, Thanksgiving! Okay, so I’m probably one of the few people who actually enjoys preparing the Thanksgiving meal. I think it’s the best week ever when I can kick everyone out of the kitchen and just be in my element. It’s almost therapeutic.

Over the years, I’ve published an assortment of recipes for a gluten-free Thanksgiving feast. I’ve collected them here with links and synopses, plus tips that may help with older recipes so you’re ready for Thanksgiving 2017.

Roast Turkey & Gravy

The star of the dinner, a golden brown bird and boat full of gravy! Post includes overnight dry brine instructions, roasting instructions, directions for how to make the best gravy ever, and how to carve your perfectly cooked bird.

Thaw: Sunday
Prepare: Wednesday
Cook: Thursday

Cornbread Dressing

Stuffing that hasn’t been stuffed (because stuffing is evil). Seriously, bake this recipe as a casserole, not inside the bird, or you’re seriously risking salmonella.

Prepare & first cook: Tuesday
Cook: Thursday

Cornbread

You can’t make cornbread dressing without cornbread. I recommend a cooked cornmeal, and look for a brand labeled gluten-free. Usually, I go to the Hispanic section and look at the cornmeal and masa options there. I use P.A.N. in the yellow bag.

Fluffy Southern-Style Buttermilk Biscuits

Do you want to be able to split a biscuit and put together your very first turkey sandwich right there at the holiday table? Do you want to spread cranberry sauce rather than jam onto a buttery bite of deliciousness? Have it all this Thanksgiving with these delicious buttermilk biscuits! Tip: Prepare biscuits and arrange on tray, then store in the freezer. Set the tray out on a countertop about an hour before baking on Thursday to thaw, then bake as instructed.

Copycat Cheddar Bay Biscuits

Tip: Drop dough onto a sheet tray a few days ahead of time and store in the freezer. Set the tray out on a countertop about an hour before baking on Thursday to thaw, then bake as instructed.

Cream of Celery Root & Carrot Soup

Is dinner taking a little longer to hit the table this year? Whip up some of this delicious soup a few days ahead and serve hot or cold as an appetizer to stave off the hangries.

Cook: Monday

Macaroni & Cheese

Some people enjoy mac & cheese with their Thanksgiving meal. I am not one of them. However, for those people, I’ve included the link to my recipe here. I recommend preparing the dish up to the baking step, then refrigerating until Thursday. Bake until the top is golden and crusty.

Prepare: Tuesday
Cook: Thursday

Green Bean Casserole

Although the turkey is the star of the spread, most people’s favorite dish for Thanksgiving is the green bean casserole. Wars have been waged over green bean casserole in households across the nation. Check out my version. I recommend preparing the dish a few days ahead up to combining the mushroom soup sauce and the green beans. Allow the fried onions to cool completely after frying, then store separately until it comes time to bake.

Pumpkin Bread with Maple Cream Cheese Icing

People are going to want something to enjoy during the parade in the morning, so bake a couple loaves of this delicious pumpkin bread to serve with coffee.

Cook: Wednesday

Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie

Recipe makes 2 pies. Also, I have a better crust recipe now. Check out my chocolate pie post and use that crust recipe.

Prepare: Monday (crust)
Cook: Wednesday (chill in refrigerator)

Pumpkin Pie

This was literally my second post ever, so I’d just like to apologize in advance for all the flaws in the video and writing of this post. It will soon be replaced with shiny new content, I promise. However, the recipe is sound, and makes 2 pies. Also, check out my chocolate pie post and use that crust recipe.

Prepare: Monday (crust)
Cook: Wednesday (chill in refrigerator)

Hot Chocolate

If you live in a cooler area of the country, you may need to warm up with a toasty beverage. Check out my recipes for classic, Mexican, and orange spice hot chocolate!

Prepare: Sunday (mix)

12 Days of Christmas Holiday Recipe Special: 12 Recipes for the Fall and Winter Holidays

For more recipes, check out my book, 12 Days of Christmas Holiday Recipe Special: 12 Recipes for the Fall and Winter Holidays! Recipes include pumpkin soup, succotash, Brussels sprouts, sweet potato casserole, stuffed squash, a lighter stovetop version of green bean “casserole,” and more. My favorite dish for the holiday table is the sweet & savory corn pudding, which will use up the other half of the cornbread recipe that hasn’t been made into dressing. I also published my recipe for homemade egg nog. I recommend whipping up a batch Sunday so the mixture can age in the fridge for a few days.

Also, if you’re looking for entertainment the week of Thanksgiving, I’m planning to livestream all my preparation throughout the week. Be forewarned that I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m going to try to get some friends to help out by reading off live questions and loaning me their phones to set cooking alarms since my phone will be in use as the camera… Maybe I can drag them into frame if I need something more interesting for viewers than just my stove and me. I don’t know yet, I’m just going to feel it out as I go. I do have a tentative schedule ready, though.

Sunday:

Egg nog
Cornbread
Sweet potato casserole
All the pie crusts (for Thanksgiving and for my local pie raffle winners)
Set turkey up to thaw in fridge

Monday:

Cornbread dressing
Sweet & savory corn pudding
Succotash

Tuesday:

Green bean casserole

Wednesday:

Pies
Dry-brine turkey overnight

Thursday:

So that’s my schedule for Thanksgiving 2017 prep, which I will attempt to livestream on YouTube as it happens. Tune in to watch the trainwreck unfold, and have a very happy Thanksgiving!
